Durham East Cross Forest Conservation Area

Donors Share the vision of a conservation area

In October of 2006, Mr. Erast Huculak donated just over 223 hectares (552 acres) of property in the East Cross Forest to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, who in turn transferred title to Kawartha Conservation.

It is Mr. Huculak's hope that other landowners in the area of the East Cross Forest will follow his example and contribute to the proposed Durham East Cross Forest Conservation Area, both for the benefit of the environment and for the enjoyment and appreciation of generations of visitors.

In December of 2007, we received a private donated 24.5 acres of wetland, forest and savannah through Environment Canada's Ecological Gifts Program (www.cws-scf.ec.gc.ca/egp-pde/).

In 2009, we acquired 302 acres through partial donations.
