Port Perry Stormwater Management Plan

Kawartha Conservation, in partnership with the Region of Durham and the Township of Scugog, is developing the Port Perry Stormwater Management Plan to mitigate the effects of stormwater runoff on Lake Scugog and surrounding water bodies.

What is a stormwater management plan?

The Port Perry urban area has approximately 1,012 hectares of developed land that drains to Osler Marsh, Cawker’s Creek, Nonquon River and Lake Scugog. Because of the high rate of aquatic plant growth in the lake, there is a concern over the amount of sediments and nutrients entering the water through the municipal stormwater system.

Objectives of the Plan:

Background:

The final product will include relevant GIS mapping products, an inventory of stormwater infrastructure within the town and a report with specific recommendations on how to improve the quality of stormwater entering the lake and surrounding water bodies. The report will also include suitable sites, cost estimates and the potential for a reduction in pollutants. This will be accomplished by the following:

Public Process:

This management plan is being done in accordance with the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) process as written by the Municipal Engineers Association and amended in 2007. The public consultation process for the plan follows the guidelines set out in the MCEA and includes a notice of commencement, two public open houses, notice of project completion and meetings with project stakeholders.

The following is a list of notices, public open houses and other data available to the public. This list is being continually updated. Please check back for updates on dates and times of events.
