With over 35km of maintained trails throughout our Conservation areas, ranging in difficulty, length, terrain and accessibility, there is something for everyone. Dog Walking |
On-leash dog walking is welcome in all our Conservation areas. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all users we always require pets to remain on-leash and ask that owners pick up after their pets. Horseback Riding |
Durham East Cross Forest Conservation Area offers just over 7km of multi-use trails. With two large parking lots, horse gates for easy access into the park and sandy soils throughout, these trails make for great riding. Offered at: Durham East Cross Forest |
Snowshoeing and Cross-country Skiing |

Forest Therapy |
Join our certified forest therapy guide on an immersive forest experience. Forest Therapy is based on mindfully connecting to the natural world. Take time to relax, reconnect and deepen your relationship with nature! Explore the forest with your senses. Walks are slow and easy, with lots of stillness built in. Good for all fitness levels. Seniors Walking In Nature |
Enjoy fresh air and social interaction on a guided hike through the trails of Ken Reid Conservation Area. You'll be guided on a 1.5-hour hike by staff and learn about the property, plants, animals and habitats that exist. Owl prowl |
Explore the conservation areas after dark as you try and find some of the owls that make their home in the canopy. Participants will learn about the types of owls that can be seen before heading into the forest. Visit our Events Calendar for upcoming Owl prowls. |
Herb Walk |
Wander the trails and experience plants in their natural setting. Learn how to positively identify plants in the wild and how to use them medicinally in your life. Bat Walk |
