Two women walk along the Story Walk Trail at Ken Reid Conservation AreaJANUARY 22, 2021 – Beginning Saturday, January 30, Kawartha Conservation and the Kawartha Lakes Public Library will be launching our second Story Walk at Ken Reid Conservation Area.

In December, the Pond Loop at Ken Reid was the site of the first Story Walk featuring the popular children’s book ‘The Snow Day’ by Jack Ezra Keats.

Following the popular and successful launch of the first self-guided Story Walk at Ken Reid Conservation Area in December, in partnership with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, feedback from the community was overwhelmingly positive.

“The Story Walk was extremely well received,” said Nancy Aspden, Coordinator, Environmental Programs/ GIS Specialist. “We had so many positive comments and feedback from parents and visitors. We’re so pleased to be able to partner with the Kawartha Lakes Public Library to offer a second Story Walk.”

Starting Saturday, January 30, the Pond Loop, located near the main parking lot of Ken Reid Conservation Area, will become home to the second Story Walk featuring ‘The Mitten’ by Jan Brett.

The Story Walk is a self-guided experience and visitors are asked to continue to respect and adhere to proper health unit protocols and social distancing. Please ensure you are following the directional signage and maintain social distancing when visiting Ken Reid Conservation Area and the Story Walk.

“This is a wonderful partnership seeing our conservation authority and our public library collaborating to provide an enhanced experience for families and children in the area,” said Kawartha Lakes Mayor, and Chair of the Kawartha Conservation Board of Directors Andy Letham. “Ken Reid Conservation Area is a jewel among our green spaces and parks, and it is great to see so many people take the opportunity to get outside, enjoy the area and benefit from the Story Walk collaboration.”
