Back to SearchJune 28, 2022 – Just in time for summer, the popular Kawartha Conservation Talking Forest App has expanded to include trails at Windy Ridge Conservation Area and the newly re-opened Pigeon River Headwaters Conservation Area, in addition to Ken Reid Conservation Area.
“The Talking Forest has been such a fun experience for our visitors,” explained Kristie Virgoe, Director of Stewardship and CA Lands. “Since we launched the app at Ken Reid, it has continued to grow in popularity, and we’re excited to be able to offer new trails and new stories to tell at some of our other conservation areas.”
The Talking Forest app is available for both Apple and Android and creates a new way to explore trails and nature. When activated, the Talking Forest app tells the stories of trees, nature and history as visitors walk along select trails within the conservation areas.
“It’s amazing seeing the expressions on the faces of visitors, especially the younger ones, when they experience the Talking Forest for the first time,” said Conservation Areas Technician Melissa Creasy-Alexander. “Hearing the trees come alive is a pretty magical experience and we’ve had really positive feedback so we’re pleased to be able to expand the app to some of our different conservation area properties.”
The Talking Forest app is free to download and allows visitors to explore the trails throughout our Conservation Areas like never before, taking in the tales of trees that call the parks home. The Talking Forest is an interactive trail that allows users to hear some of the different stories the trees in our parks have to share, from the trees themselves. Along the trails you will be greeted by the voices of various trees who will provide you with fun facts, historical information and may even direct you to other points of interest in the parks.
