Farmers Sought for Talbot River Subwatershed Projects Supporting Water Health

AUGUST 28, 2025 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KAWARTHA LAKES, ONTARIO – Kawartha Conservation is inviting farmers and agricultural landowners in the Talbot River Subwatershed to take part in an exciting funding opportunity that supports farm stewardship and protects local water quality.

Through this program, farmers can access up to $10,000 in funding to implement on-the-ground projects that improve soil health, protect waterways, and promote long-term farm productivity. Eligible projects may include livestock exclusion fencing, alternate watering systems, riparian plantings, erosion control, and other best management practices that benefit both farms and the environment.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for farmers to receive financial support while improving the health of their land and water,” said Julia Derue, Stewardship Technician with Kawartha Conservation. “We know there’s strong interest in this type of work, and funding is limited, so we encourage farmers to connect with us as soon as possible. By acting now, landowners can secure support to complete meaningful projects that benefit their farm operations and our shared watershed.”

Why Get Involved?

  • Up to $10,000 in funding available for eligible farm projects.
  • One-on-one technical support to identify and design stewardship solutions that fit your property.
  • Direct benefits to your farm through improved soil productivity and reduced erosion.
  • Positive community impact by protecting local rivers, streams, and Lake Simcoe’s water quality.

“With agriculture being such an important part of our local economy and community, this program is a win-win for farmers and the environment,” added Derue.

Spaces are limited, and interest is expected to be high. Farmers and farm property owners in the Talbot River Subwatershed who want to learn more or apply should contact:
