Kawartha Conservation Hosting Free Forest Therapy Sessions in Support of Mental Health
KAWARTHA LAKES, ON - Kawartha Conservation is inviting the community to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature through two free, guided Forest Therapy sessions being offered on January 21, 2026 at Ken Reid Conservation Area.
The two 90-minute guided experiences are designed to support mental well-being, reduce stress, and encourage mindful connection with the natural world. While there is no cost to participate, donations will be accepted, with all proceeds directed to support mental health initiatives.
Forest Therapy, sometimes known as forest bathing, is a gentle, guided practice that helps participants engage their senses, slow their pace, and experience the calming and restorative benefits of time spent in nature. A growing body of research shows that time spent in natural environments can reduce stress, improve mood, enhance focus, and support overall mental and physical health.
“In a world that feels increasingly fast-paced and demanding, creating space to slow down and reconnect with nature is more important than ever,” said Kristie McCabe, Interim Director, Planning and Development Services at Kawartha Conservation and a certified Forest Therapy guide. “Forest Therapy offers a simple but powerful way to reset, reduce stress, and reconnect with ourselves and the natural world around us.”
Participants will be guided through a series of gentle, mindful activities designed to deepen their connection to the forest environment, promote relaxation, and foster a sense of calm and presence. The experience is accessible to most people and does not require any special skills or fitness level.
“Spending time in nature is not a luxury, it is a necessity for our mental health and overall well-being,” added McCabe. “These sessions are an invitation to step outside the noise of daily life and begin the year in a more grounded, intentional way, while also supporting important mental health initiatives in our community.”
The sessions will take place at Ken Reid Conservation Area on January 21, 2026, with two separate time options available. Space is limited and pre-registration is required.
Residents are encouraged to register early and take advantage of this opportunity to experience the benefits of Forest Therapy in a supportive, welcoming setting.
