Kawartha Conservation Maintains 100 Percent Permit Review and Approval Timelines in October

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KAWARTHA LAKES, ONTARIO - Kawartha Conservation continued to meet and exceed both provincial and Conservation Ontario permitting timelines, issuing 28 permits in October with 100 percent compliance across all service standards, in their efforts to ensure consistent and reliable high-quality permitting services.

These results continue a long-standing trend of professional excellence that reflects the skill, commitment, and responsiveness of Kawartha Conservation’s Planning and Development Services team. Under Conservation Ontario’s Client Service Standards and the timelines outlined in O. Reg. 41/24, the organization met every review and issuance requirement for the month.

“Our team takes great pride in providing timely, consistent, and high-quality service for our municipal partners, developers, builders, and property owners,” said Kristie McCabe, Interim Director of Planning and Development Services. “Achieving 100 percent of our timelines is not a milestone for us, it is our standard. These results reflect the professionalism and dedication of our staff, and the strong systems we have in place to support responsible development and protect people and property.”

Kawartha Conservation’s ongoing performance demonstrates reliability for developers while ensuring environmental protections, supported by knowledgeable staff with deep local expertise, who are delivering on the province’s focus on development and infrastructure priorities. The ability to consistently issue permits within both the current legislated timelines and the more stringent conservation authority guidelines speaks to an efficient permitting system in effect.

“Local knowledge matters in planning and permitting,” added McCabe. “Our staff understand the watershed, the technical requirements, and the needs of our communities. That expertise is central to meeting timelines while ensuring development proceeds safely and responsibly.”

These results come at a time when the Government of Ontario has recently passed Bill 68, the Plan to Protect Ontario Act (Budget Measures), 2025 and is exploring the amalgamation of conservation authorities to improve permitting efficiency across the province.

The organization remains committed to highlighting the importance of local decision-making, transparent service delivery, and strong relationships with municipalities, developers, and community partners.
