Kawartha Water Fund Community Grant open for applications
JUNE 14, 2021 – Do you have a project that helps support the recommendations of lake management plans within the City of Kawartha Lakes? There might be funding to assist with your project.
The Kawartha Water Fund Community Grant assists applicants by providing grants that help organizations implement recommendations from the lake management plans completed across the municipality.
Proposals may include things like:
- Brochure printing/distribution
- Educational event/workshop
- Restoration project
- Demonstration site
- Community planting event
- Urban stormwater management
- Aquatic plant management
- Invasive species management
- Lake health monitoring
- Reforestation
- Urban stormwater best management practices
“To be eligible for these grants, organizations must implement an action from one of our lake management plans and have a positive impact on water quality in Kawartha Conservation's Watersheds,” explained Landowner Services Technician Elizabeth Travers. “We want to assist organizations in supporting and protecting our watershed, our lakes, rivers and environment, and this is a great program that helps financially support those goals and objectives.”
The Kawartha Water Fund Community Grant, and Scugog Water Fund – which was launched for a second intake recently – provide financial support for landowners undertaking environmental projects on their land, and to organizations for community-focused environmental projects.
To apply for a community grant, interested individuals and organizations must;
- Make sure your project will occur in the Kawartha Water Fund area
- Contact our Landowner Services Technician to discuss your project idea
- Depending on the nature of your project, a site visit may be required
- Fill out an online application form
Once your site visit (if required) has occurred and your application has been completed you may proceed with your project. Your project proposal will be reviewed and you will be notified whether your funding has been approved.
“We are seeing more and more interest from residents and organizations who want to complete environment projects on their property and across the community,” explained Ms. Travers. “They are seeing the positive impacts they can have on their lake or river that have far reaching positive impacts on the environment and our community.
“Funding is limited, so we’re encouraging people who are interested to complete the application process soon,” added Mr. Travers. “There’s lots of great ideas and projects out there, so we can’t wait to see the applications start to come in.”
