The Hike highlights the Story Walk Trail this November at Ken Reid Conservation Area
With the autumn leaves falling and a crispness in the air, visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area can now immerse themselves in ‘The Hike’ along the Story Walk Trail throughout November.
Geared towards the adventurous spirits of young explorers, ‘The Hike’ chronicles the journey of three pals and their loyal dog as they embark on an exhilarating expedition up Buck Mountain. Navigating through meandering paths, they encounter a myriad of wildlife, diverse flora, and ever-changing terrains, documenting their observations and soaking in the vistas on their ascent.
“One moment the deer is there, the next it's gone, leaving us to question if it was just an illusion,” unveils a passage from the narrative by Alison Farrell. “A brief shower passes. The birds rejoice. We pause to enjoy their melodic banter amidst the branches.”
The Story Walk at Ken Reid Conservation Area animates the world of children’s literature along its paths, establishing itself as a beloved destination for adventure-seeking families. Each month features a fresh story presented by the Kawartha Lakes Public Library, merging quality time with family, education, and the great outdoors into a singular, enriching excursion.
“The Story Walk at Ken Reid Conservation Area offers a unique opportunity for kids to delight in the wonders of the wilderness while enhancing their literacy skills,” explained Kristie Virgoe, Director of Stewardship and Conservation Lands. “As we transition into the cooler months, parents can find solace in this creative avenue for continuous learning outside the school environment.”
“Discover the Story Walk and enjoy more than 10 kilometers of trails at Ken Reid Conservation Area this season, enveloped by the serene beauty of changing leaves, wetlands, and an array of birds and landscapes," she added.
Positioned along the Pond Loop Trail near the main parking area and the off-leash dog park, the Story Walk invites visitors to Ken Reid Conservation Area, with parking available for $4 daily.
